Schmidt, Armed Services Committee Advance Transformational Defense Bill
WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Derek Schmidt (KS-02) released the following statement after the House Armed Services Committee advanced H.R. 3838, the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This year’s NDAA overhauls the Department of Defense’s acquisition process, allowing the American military to quickly and effectively adapt to a constantly shifting global battlefield.
“The United States military is the best in the world; our legislation ensures it stays that way,” Congressman Derek Schmidt said. “After working closely with the Trump Administration for months, our committee advanced a Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act that will make our military more lethal, improve our servicemembers’ quality of life, and ensure the Department of Defense is always ready to respond to constantly changing global threats. Enhancing global peace through strength is one of my top priorities in Congress, and this bill takes a significant step toward achieving that goal.”
The Second District of Kansas is home to numerous military interests including the U.S. Army’s 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, the U.S. Army’s Combined Arms Center and 35th Infantry Division at Fort Leavenworth, the 190th Air Refueling Wing of the Kansas National Guard at Forbes Field in Topeka, and both the Kansas Army National Guard and Kansas Air National Guard Headquarters with authority over nearly 7,000 Kansas soldiers and airmen.
